What a mess! | Read all reviews
What a disappointment. Stayed here while enroute home and it was terrible. The bathroom was dirty - hair everywhere, sink dirty - I had to clean it before we could use it (we were too tired and already ready for bed when we discovered it). Went to buy a Coke from the machine - it wouldn't take bills - got change from the desk then bought a HOT Coke. When I went to tell the clerk all I got was, "call the 800 number on the machine." The bed wasn't half made - pull back the comforter (it had a hole burned in it) and the sheets were barely thrown at the bed - the air conditioner ran constantly (on low) and made a horrible shuddering sound all night. We slept about 2 hours and left by 6 a.m. even though we were exhausted. Couldn't get out of there fast enough.

We stayed at the Holiday Inn Express for one night on our return home. The rate was very reasonable, and the room was lovely and quite spacious. It was also very quiet since it is not located in a busy area. They are pet friendly in every sense of the word. There is no extra fee for your pet. There is a continental breakfast, but there were not too many choices on the morning of our departure. The clerk at the front desk was very friendly and hospitable. We would certainly stay here again. This is a new H.I.E., and so immaculate and pretty. The staff is just terrific, and the prices unreal (we stayed around Christmas for about $50 one night, for the best king *suite* in the place.) We always stay at this hotel when we go through that part of the country. It's *out* but there's a Domino's right next door, so you won't starve, and you have good restaurants just a couple of miles away. Love this place!!! Very nice, well maintained and quiet hotel - with a wonderful country view. We were traveling with 3 children and the accomodations were great. One comment - we were told they had adjoining rooms (called the hotel directly) and when we arrived found out they didn't have any throughout the establishment. Breakfast was good and the rooms were very spacious. It was a great place to stay to travel to DC or throughout the area. On Dec. 23rd, my wife, two daughters, and I stayed at the Holiday Inn Express. in Martinsburg, WV. I booked it online and explained we'd be arriving @ 10 PM. The room I requested was ready and waiting for us. The hotel was clean, well taken care of, and the continental breakfast was good. Except for the beds being a little saggy, we had no complaints. The price was excellent (booked through Holiday Inn) and we would highly recommend this place to anyone. I chose this hotel because of the location to where I had my meetings set for the week. After flying all day and then having to drive from the DC airport to here it was just draining. I had been told that there was nothing near by to eat so as I was driving to FW I stopped in somewhere before hand to eat as I had heard there were not plenty of options to eat at. Once I got there I noticed the little Shell station there with the Domino's Pizza. Makes sense why you would have a fridge and microwave in all rooms as if you order pizza and you plan on living on it all week, eat it for all 3 meals if you choose and if you don't have a vehicle or someone to give you a ride, you're stuck eating this all week. You need a car to drive a few miles down the interstate into Martinsburg as the place we hit the most was Orioles especially since it offered a karaoke night during one of the nights I was there. This is about the only place to hang out at that isn't too far from this hotel. My impression upon arrival was that the hotel was fairly new & well-maintained. We'd been on the road for 5 hours, & the front desk clerk checking us in was friendly, but had a difficult time finding our reservation which was quite disconcerting, but after waiting a few minutes, respelling, reconfirming dates, etc & going back out to my car to get my confirmation, by the time I came back in, she had located it. After checking in, & getting our luggage we met a maintenance man doing some landscaping, and he was just as nice as he could be. The room was nice, pretty average. There were some hairs on the floor around the toilet, but the rest of the room appeared clean. Non-smoking is a big deal because my 5 year-old son has asthma & the room smelled fresh & clean, no hint of smoke. We did have a slight housekeeping issue but it was resolved - we had a late night spending time at the hospital with family and had our Do-Not-Disturb sign up until 10:30 the next morning (fortunately I work at a hotel and know that leaving that sign up past the morning can result in your room being missed by housekeeping, so made sure to have it off nice & early). By 1:00 our room hadn't been cleaned, so my sister saw housekeeping in our hallway & asked just to make sure that our room would be cleaned, & the housekeeper assured us it would be & we assured him not to rush. But then when 2:30 came & I called the front desk just to double-check again, the clerk said that housekeeping was gone for the day. The clerk asked about the Do-Not-Disturb sign, and when I told her when I took it off and also the acknowledgement from housekeeping, she said she would speak to her manager. We left shortly thereafter, and when we returned late that evening, the room had been cleaned. How a potential situation is resolved is important, and I appreciated how it was handled with no fuss. The complimentary breakfast was plentiful, good & fresh. And checkout was speedy & efficient, and the checkout clerk (who I believe was the GM) was very nice. Working at a hotel for over 7 years, I'm pretty particular when it comes to guest service, cleanliness, & hotel procedures because I know what kind of expectations guests have - the staff didn't know it, but they were up to some pretty tough scrutiny! But I would stay again. :)

Not the quality of HIE we're used to....getting old an not much attention being paid to keeping it up. Hallway to non-smoking room stank of cigarette smoke. The "Simply Smart Bedding" advertized by HIE (triple sheeting) did not exist...bedding was old and nylon bedspreads were in use. Room on highway side was very noisy...traffic. Light cover in elevator full of dirt/bugs. No decent restaurants nearby. Probably won't hurry back. What a disappointment. Stayed here while enroute home and it was terrible. The bathroom was dirty - hair everywhere, sink dirty - I had to clean it before we could use it (we were too tired and already ready for bed when we discovered it). We slept about 2 hours and left by 6 a.m. even though we were exhausted. Couldn't get out of there fast enough. Dirty, smelly, and noisy is the description I would give this hotel. Our "nonsmoking" room smelled like smoke so badly, I felt nauseous. Tried to turn on the room fan to move the air, but it was so loud, I couldn't sleep. The TV remote was broken, and the TV buzzed constantly. The room was not very clean, and the noise outside the door was disconcerting. My husband and I will definitely look for a different place to stay in Martinsburg next time!!
